The Dickel Dozen, Pt. 1

The folks at George Dickel reached out to me asking if I wanted to participate in a new blogger program called the Dickel Dozen.  The Dickel Dozen?  The first image that comes to mind is the film “The Dirty Dozen.”  Anyway, about the program: George Dickel National Ambassador Doug Kragel selects a barrel of George Dickel Tennessee Whisky.  That barrel gets bottled and 12 bloggers (the aforementioned Dickel Dozen) get sent a bottle for review.  That sounded good to me, so I signed up.  I’ve written about George Dickel No. 8, George Dickel No. 12, and George Dickel Barrel Select here before.  Their No 8 was okay, but I really enjoyed their Dickel No. 12 and Barrel Select.   This program will give me a chance to try a single barrel of George Dickel.  I should have a bottle sent to me soon, and I’ll post about when I receive it.  In the meantime, check out this video they created and personalized just for us here at AdventuresInWhiskey.com.

Barrel Aged Jeans… seriously.

I like bourbon as much as the next guy.  Scratch that.  I like bourbon more than the next guy.  Then again, bourbon is as popular as ever.  My hope is that it’s not just a trend.  Nevertheless,  everybody seems to want to be involved with bourbon in some form or fashion.  Everything from reclaimed bourbon barrel-turned furniture to bourbon-scented candles is available for the bourbon-loving consumer.  My fiancee Carly bought me a bourbon scented candle from Bath & Bodyworks.  Smells like butterscotch and caramel.  Kind of nice. Anyway, I’d seen it all… or so I thought.

A few weeks ago I got an email asking if I wanted to be a part of a new program from Bulleit Bourbon & Noble Denim wherein they are overdying 50 pair of Noble raw denim jeans in a used Bulleit Bourbon barrel, then aging the jeans in said barrel for a month.  A pair of jeans would be sent to me right before the holiday season.

“Well, that’s silly,” I thought.  Then I thought some more.  I like Bulleit Bourbon.  I like wearing jeans.  This could be interesting.  Maybe the jeans pick up some of the charcoal color from the charred barrel?  Maybe the jeans pick up a little of that bourbon color?  This could be really interesting.

Below are a couple of videos from Noble Denim as the jeans start their “journey.”  I’ll update this post as Noble posts more videos.

Father’s Day Gift Guide

Father’s Day is right around the corner.  If you’re like me, sometimes you just don’t know what to get dad for Father’s Day.  There’s no better gift for dad than a nice bottle of bourbon.  Doesn’t have to be expensive.  Here are five bourbons that are available on the shelves and won’t break the bank.

Under $25

  1. Elijah Craig 12 Year  This is not a solid bourbon for the price.  This is a solid bourbon, period.
  2. W. L. Weller 12 Year   Loads of flavor in this complex wheated bourbon.

$30 – $50

  1. Four Roses Small Batch  A lighter style bourbon with lots of character.  Never had a bad glass.
  2. Angel’s Envy Bourbon  A light yet complex bourbon.  This was finished in a port wine barrel.  One of my favorites.
  3. Booker’s Bourbon   An uncut, unfiltered barrel proof bourbon.  In my opinion, the best of the Jim Beam lineup.
