Glenfiddich is one of the best-selling single malt whiskies in the world.  It, along with rival Glenlivet, is available just about everywhere.  The distillery was officially founded in 1887, when William Grant first distilled whisky at the site.  William Grant & Sons was one of the first companies to market the single malt Scotch to the public in the 1960s.  Back then, single malt whiskies weren’t really on the market.  Blended whisky was king.  Apparently the robust and complex flavors of single malt Scotch was too much for people.  Aged in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, this 12-year-old whisky is the youngest in Glenfiddich’s core range.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof, the newest member of the Jack Daniel’s family, is hitting shelves August 2015 at a suggested retail price of $65.  When I heard the news, I couldn’t wait to try this whiskey.  I’m a fan of their Single Barrel, and thoroughly enjoyed their Sinatra Select release.  Now we get a single barrel whiskey from them at barrel proof, unfiltered and uncut.  This is the closest most of us will ever get to tasting what Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett samples on a regular basis in the barrel warehouses.  It’s virtually the same thing he’s tasting.

I.W. Harper 15-Year-Old Bourbon Review

Earlier this year, the I.W. Harper brand was recently re-introduced to the U.S. market in a standard offering and this limited-edition 15-year-old expression.  The whiskey was distilled at the Bernheim distillery, now owned by Heaven Hill.  It’s made up of 86% corn, 6% rye and 8% barley, and is selling for an SRP of $74.99.  The bottle is a re-interpretation of the old I.W. Harper glass decanter.  Let’s get to tasting!
