Concluding a short vertical tasting of Glenfarclas is a look at their 21-year-old expression.  Recapping, I liked the bright fruitiness of 12-year-old Glenfarclas, but was blown away by the complexity and robustness of Glenfarclas 17-year-old.  At 21 years old, this would be the oldest Scotch I’ve tasted.  Glenfarclas has a 25, 30 and even 40 year old expression in their lineup.  I’d love to sample those one day.

Whenever I pour a glass of a new whisky, I give my wife Carly the first taste.  She’s had a sip of every whisky I’ve sampled at home, even though she isn’t a fan.  In general, her reaction ranges from a puckered face to an indifferent “eh.”  She’s liked two whiskies she’s tasted, and they couldn’t be farther apart in flavor – Four Roses Yellow Label and Sazerac 18 Year Old Rye.  However, the key word there is “liked”.  Once, and only once, did the word “love” come out, and that was after tasting Glenfarclas 17-year-old single malt.

Glenfarclas 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Review

Glenfarclas has just celebrated 150 years as a working distillery.  That’s quite an achievement.  What makes this even more remarkable is that the company has been family-owned its entire existence.  John Grant bought the distillery in 1865.  His grandsons, John and George, formed the company J & G Grant.  Fifth generation family member John L.S. Grant is chairman of the company, and his son George S. Grant serves as brand ambassador.
